The Cross Tower 1430

Smederevo, situated on the right bank of the Danube, is the last medieval Serbian capital. The core of the city is the fortress, built in 1430. It has triangular plan with system of double ramparts with 25 towers and a water moat. Within the vast complex were situated the Metropolitan see and fortified ruler's court.

Dormition of the Virgin church 1430
The church of the Dormition of the Virgin, on the cemetery, was built in the first half of 15th century. It has decorative stone and brick masonry and sculpturally decorated portal and windows. Its interior is fresco painted.

St George church 1854
The church of St. George in the center of the city, designed by a Czech architect Jan Nevola, was built in 1854. It is one of the biggest churches from the period of Romanticism in Serbia. Its design blends Serbian medieval heritage and baroque influences in a superb manner. The interior of the church and the iconostasis was painted by a Russian artist Andrea Vasilevich Bicenko.
