RAKOVICA MONASTERY

NATO bombs repaetedly detonated in the nearest vicinity.

The Rakovica monastery, with the church of the Holy Archangels, was built in 16th century on the site of a medieval shrine. It was remodeled in 1861/1865. In the narthex of the church several members of Serbian royal family are buried. In the monastery courtyard are buried famous persons of  19th century Serbia. During repeated NATO bombings the walls of monastery buildings, including the church, are severely shaken and fissures appeared.
