TV TOWER

On April 30th, the TV Tower on the Avala mountain was completely destroyed.

The TV Tower on Mt. Avala - the exquisite Belgrade picnic area, was built in 1965. From the restaurant on its top (195 meters high, without the arial mast)  superb vistas on Belgrade area are enjoyed.
Though the basic form of television tower always depends on precise functional determinants, the Belgrade TV Tower represents a singular work, equally praiseworthy regarding its architectural and structural concepts. This is most distinctly expressed in the way the tower base is founded as well as in the design of the access to its trunk.
The architectural form is made of unfinished concrete which yields here equally to the structure and architecture as well as to the modern sculptural searching. The altitudinal components of the design also have the adequate ground-floor solutions: the whole area is solved through an attractive play of plateaus and ramps designed with the same attention and power.
The Belgrade TV Tower is not only an important work of architecture, but also an excellent work of Yugoslavia's civil engineering.
